Nanoinformatics 2010

Nanoinformatics 2010 is a conference and collaborative roadmapping project that seeks to include all members of nanoinformatics R&D community, stakeholders, informatics experts and potential contributors. It will be organized and governed by the nanoinformatics community, and as such is a commonwealth unbranded by a single agency, organization, project, or corporation. Nanoinformatics 2010 is designed to survey the landscape, provide a roadmap and generate collaborative activities in the area of nanoinformatics.

Nanoinformatics 2010 will:

  • inform the broader scientific community of current nanoinformatics projects as well as needs, challenges and opportunities.
  • provide a updated definition of nanoinformatics.
  • be sandwiched between collaborative work taking place before and after the event.
  • seed the development of efficient new informatics tools for exploration, discovery, design, manufacturing and safety in nanotechnology.
  • itself utilize informatics tools.
  • be informed by successful informatics techniques from other fields.
  • spur database federation and project coordination activities that will enable efficient data mining, visualization and utilization.
  • ignite interest in academic research, education and training in the area of nanoinformatics.

Nanoinformatics involves the development of effective mechanisms for collecting, sharing, visualizing, modeling and analyzing information relevant to the nanoscale science and engineering community. It also involves the utilization of information and communication technologies that help to launch and support efficient communities of practice. Nanoinformatics is necessary for comparative characterization of nanomaterials, for design and use of nanodevices and nanosystems, for instrumentation development and manufacturing processes. Nanoinformatics also fosters efficient scientific discovery and learning through data mining and machine learning techniques.
